Snatch Game is here! Snatch Game is here! As the legendary Martha from High School Musical would say; “Hip-Hop Hooray!” Snatch Game has become somewhat of a legendary staple in the Drag Race franchise. It’s the episode everybody waits for with bated breath and now we’ll be getting our first batch of British queens taking the plunge. So let’s not fanny about, time to get onto the episode!
The Vivienne turned into Old Mother Hubbard again when the queens entered the werkroom. She decided to call out Sum Ting Wong for not taking her (unrequested) advice. Sometimes I think she forgets that she’s another competitor and not a judge on the show. The Vivienne doesn’t want to come across as too cocksure or she’ll start to alienate herself from the other queens and the viewers.
There was no mini-challenge this week because the Snatch Game is all too important to waste time on stupid tasks – this is the big one!
Maxi Challenge: The Snatch Game
It’s here, it’s here, it’s here! I won’t fanny about anymore, we’re up to Snatch Game and to help the queens prep, the legendary Alan Carr entered the werkroom to offer some friendly advice.
The Vivienne stole the show with her 3 impressions but I have to be honest, I was so gutted that she didn’t choose to do Cilla Black for Snatch Game. I wanted the best of Britain to be represented for this challenge!
We also had our first scandal of the season – Baga Chipz and Divina De Campo both wanted to do Margaret Thatcher!
Baga Chipz had no intention of doing anybody else and told Divina that either they both do her of Divina backs down which Divina actually did. In fact, she went as far as giving Baga her outfit because she thought Baga’s was a pile of wank. Other than that, everybody seemed to just get on with there costumes and characters.
As always, the show was hosted by RuPaul. But who would our celebrity guests be? It’s only journalist and Strictly Come Dancing 2019 winner Stacey Dooley and the living legend herself, Lorraine Kelly!
Lorraine, as always, was an absolute treat but Stacey seemed like a flat fart in this episode. She mundanely quoted Drag Race phrases (most likely because she couldn’t think of anything else to suggest). She said she was a huge fan of the show but you could have fooled me!
Snatch Game: Toot or Boot
Rather than just the looks, I’ll be tooting and booting the performances as a whole and how well I think the queens delivered on the challenge.
Baga Chipz as Margaret Thatcher – Toot
This absolutely killed me. Baga’s Maggie Thatcher was honestly one of the most hilarious Snatch Game characters (and impressions) ever! The devil red contact lenses were a brilliant touch. Every joke was perfectly executed, her interactions with Ru and the other queens was spectacular and her impression was spot on.
Blu Hydrangea as Mary Berry – Toot
Who would have thought that Blu would have shined bright in the Snatch Game? Her vulgar Mary Berry character was hilarious. Every rude word, phrase and punchline had me in stitches. Hearing Mary Berry say “my poonanny tastes like a fondant fancy” had me literally crying with laughter. Whether the real Mary likes cream up her arse or not is debatable but I now I can’t unsee it.
Cheryl Hole as Gemma Collins – Boot
This was a piss poor Gemma Collins. There was no ‘GC’ in her characterisation or look. She used none of Gemma’s hilarious quotes and despite the fact she’s from Essex, her impression was weak. If there was no name tag, you wouldn’t know who she was.
Crystal as Rue McClanahan – Boot
The look was great but I didn’t get many laughs out of her. She was kind of lost in the crowd a bit this week and at times we saw her struggle to get her jokes in. She did have one shining moment, the “Thanks Syphillis” line had me in stitches so I’ll give her credit for that.
Divina De Campo as Julia Child – Boot
I was quite disappointed by Divina’s backup character. She also said that Posh Spice was one of her backup characters and I would have prefered to have seen that. I don’t like it when queens do characters that have already been done before, especially if you can’t bring anything new to it. her characterisation was actually not too shabby, but it just wasn’t very funny. I think giving up Thatcher might have thrown Divina this week.
Sum Ting Wong as Sir David Attenborough – Boot
The look was great and the impression was pretty good but there wasn’t any jokes. I don’t particularly like it when queens do men for Snatch Game so you’ve gotta make it really hilarious for me to enjoy it… this wasn’t.
She looked a little bit lost in this challenge and I wanted to just go over there and give her a hug.
The Vivienne as Donald Trump – Toot
This was impression a pure masterpiece. The mannerisms, the accent, the facial expressions and the look was truly spot on. I think it’s the best Donald Trump impression I’ve ever seen but I still would have loved to see her do Cilla Black. I think The Vivienne chose Trump as a safe option because Ru’s American so he’d get the humour more. Now, I’m not saying its safe because it was easy, she did Trump perfectly but I really wanted to see Cilla.
Moving on, it’s time for the runway! This week Ru and Michelle were joined by the brilliant Alan Carr and 1/5th of the Spice Girls, Geri Horner (who now goes by “Geri” like she’s Cher or something.
Quick shoutout to Ru for wearing something a little different this week and I loved the wig! Pretty sassy overall.
Category is: Genetically Modified Drag Queens
This week the queens donned some futuristic freaky fashion for the runway.
Blu Hydrangea – Toot
Bloody loved this! The makeup was spectacular and the blinking helmet was such a brilliant idea. The dress itself was quite cute with the matching tights and boots.
Baga Chipz – Boot
I wasn’t crazy about this look. THe boots were nice and the matte black face paint was kind of fun but it was just a bit dull in comparison to the other queens.
Cheryl Hole – Toot
I quite like this, the colours are lush, the tubing looked fun and the choppy ponytail looked really editorial and cool. Good job Cheryl.
Sum Ting Wong – Boot
The face idea was kind of fun but the rest of this outfit was quite bad.The plastic leotard looked cheap and baggy and it downplayed her fun concept. Maybe if she was wearing some sort of latex lab coat it could have had a different effect. This fell flat for me.
Divina De Campo – Toot
Love this, the bulbous lumps across the bodysuit look great, the floral additions are cute, the colour looks great on her and the giant fishbowl terrarium on her head looked great. This was a really fun look for Divina, ever down to her Salad Fingers inspired hands.
Crystal – Toot
This was so punk and so post-apocolyptic and I’m fully about it. The platform boots, the ripped tights, the metal crotch and the facial accessories are all brilliant. Not only that, but the crotch and arm sparks was brilliant. Bravo Crystal, that was how you sell a runway look!
The Vivienne – Boot
I have to be honest, I wasn’t crazy about this look. Before I go on, I want to say that the headpiece and the facial prosthetics are stunning. But the outfit itself was quite dull. The bodystuit looked like it needed way more flowers and ivy on it. She’s continuing to wear the same ‘drag queen 101’ heels whcih ruins the illusion when you can see her ankles. It’s not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, it’s just not very fun.
The Results
The judges seemed to universally love The Vivienne and Baga Chipz this week. How could they not? They were both fantastic. Blu was also complimented for her extra filthy Mary Berry and it was clear which queens didn’t prove themselves this week. But there is one point I want to mention:
‘Geri’ was a bit of a prude
I was so excited to see that legendary Ginger Spice on the show. The American season has already been blessed with both Mel B and Emma Bunton (Scary & Baby) in pervious seasons – 3 down, 2 to go!
For those of you who may not know her legacy let me share some of her highlights – she exposed her nips at the BRIT Awards, she grabbed Prince Charles’ arse, she hunted for food out of George Michael’s bin and Nelson Mandela said meeting her was the best day of his life. However she came across as really stuff and prim on Drag Race and it was such a shame.
You know full well the old Geri would have howled at the Posh Spice joke Divina made but PR-mode Geri Halliwell Horner wasn’t having any of it.
Back to the results
Backstage in the werkroom, Divina thought it was about time she called out some of the other queens for talking over her. She was quick to call out Baga as the main culprit who sat back and took the critiques.
In the end, it was the 2nd Snatch Game double-win in the franchise with Baga and Vivienne stealing it together. Personally I thought Baga had the funnier jokes but Vivienne’s impression was a spitting image.
The Lipsync
This week, Cheryl survived again with a safe and it was Crystal and Sum Ting Wong who ended in the lipsync. The pair performed to ‘Spice Up Your Life‘ by the Spice Girls and it was the first time Geri showed some personality in the whole episode. I think she was rivalling Stacey Dooley for flattest guest appearance.
Crystal was victorious and we said goodbye to the lovable Sum Ting Wong.
How has that affected the scores?
What a brilliant Snatch Game and what a great episode. I think as a whole, the queens did a fantastic job. Blu was surprisingly hilarious, Baga killed me and The Vivienne was great.
Winner: Baga Chipz, The Vivienne – 5 Points
Safe: Cheryl Hole, Blu Hydrangea– 1 Point
Bottom: Divina De Campo – 0 Points
Lipsyncing: Crystal – -1 Point
Eliminated: Sum Ting Wong– -3 Points
The results are in and this week I gained 6 points and Tom ended with 2 points. That brings Tom’s total to 19 points and I have just snuck passed with 21 points.
What a great episode that was! The queens certainly delivered with Snatch Game.
From one Maggie to another
I went as Margaret Thatcher for Halloween this year (pre-planned to this episode) but of course, I had to tag Baga Chipz in my Instagram post and I was thrilled when she shared it on her Insta Story! That topped off my Halloween in the best way possible!
