Jaymi Hensley stars in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
For a while now, my friend Elisha and I have been saying that we wanted to relive our childhoods by going to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in person. It’s a show we both fondly remember from watching the Donny Osmond film version as children and now it was coming to Leeds and we thought we’d give it a whirl. Our expectations weren’t particularly high as we’ve always seen it as a ‘family musical’. We also thought it would be a tad dated and to be fair, it did come out in 1968 (51 years ago). However, as we were watching the show, we realised that the vocals had…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 11: Bring Back My Queens
Brace yourself because I have another rant brewing! You thought I was mad last week when Shuga was unfairly sent into the lipsync, well this week’s episode has had me all kinds of vexed. Why? Well, because *spoiler alert* Nina West was wrongly eliminated this week! But I’ll come back to that later, just know that I’m fuming at RuPaul and his illegitimate daughter, Silky, who he keeps saving from elimination. After Shuga’s unjust elimination last week, the queens now know that the competition is hotting up. And there’s nobody who knows that more than Silky after she got read for filth (but saved from lipsyncing… again). I’m going to rush…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 10: Dragracadabra
Before I get into the episode I’m going to start off with a *SPOILER* for this episode. You’ve all seen how it ends and I think it was a joke. Shuga 👏🏻 was 👏🏻 robbed 👏🏻 ! It was obvious that the show wanted to get rid of Shuga as they didn’t see her as finale material but I thought Silky or Yvie should have been in the lipsync. Am I wrong? Well, you know the answer to that. The decision was a farce. But hey, Vanjie’s skirted by in her bathing suits all season and Silky has just played herself in every acting challenge so I can’t say I was surprised. The episode…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 9: L.A.D.P.!
After that double save last week (which was absolutely deserved), the queens know knew that the stakes had been raised and there most likely wouldn’t be another chance at a double save. With the competition hotting up, the queens know they can’t slip up at any point, don’t believe me? Just ask Plastique *spoiler*. But jokes aside, I really felt like Plastique was robbed this week – yes, she didn’t wear a facekini this week but she had a much stronger track record than Vanjie and I felt with both lipsyncs being on par, the track record should come into play as to who stays in the competition. As you…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 8: Snatch Game at Sea
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the one you’ve all been waiting for – Snatch Game is finally here! The episode of episodes and a fan favourite for all where the queens battle it out with their best celebrity impersonations. But before we get into it, there’s some unresolved beef in the werkroom to address. Silky is still bitter that Yvie called her talentless, which I do get, but it’s obvious Silky straight up hates Yvie and that bit can’t be ignored. But it was Vanjie and Yvie that blew up on the red couch as they reentered after Ra’Jah’s elimination. Shit the bed, I know we all love seeing drama on…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 7: From Farm To Runway
I, like most of you reading this are still saddened by the outright criminal activity that was Scarlet being robbed last week. I mean, what the hell was RuPaul thinking?! She was definitely on some sort of trip – either that or Ra’Jah is her illegitimate son. The episode started with tensions as high the decibels in Vanjie’s ‘indoor voice’. Straight away, Ra’Jah was saying how she didn’t want to read Scarlet’s message and she just wanted to scrub it out and not give her the time of day. Firstly, that’s rude as hell – it’s the queens parting message to the other contestants, don’t be nasty. Ra’Jah was so damn…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 6: The Draglympics
Escandalo! It would appear that this week has given the Drag Race community it’s first big scandal of the season. No, I’m not counting Silky’s sexual assault claims, that was pre-show. I’m talking about what’s happening right here on television. The scandal, of course, is the tragic and heartbreaking elimination of Scarlet Envy – or Tammie Brown 2.0 as I like to call her. Yes, I was pretty gutted about this week’s results, but I’ll get on to that later. On with the episode! It started with Vanjie moaning about being called out by the judges for serving the same look – something that she has absolutely been doing this…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 5: Monster Ball
From political satire to spooky attire, it’s time for the Monster Ball! Yes, we knew there would be a ball on the cards and this time, the show decided to do it a little early so we can see what the queens’ standards are. Screw it, I’m just going to get straight into the toots and boots. It wasn’t a particularly memorable episode so I may as well just get straight into the critiques. The Maxi Challenge – Monster Ball This week, Ru was giving the queens a ball, a Monster Ball to be precise. They had to serve up three ghoulishly glamourous looks. The first look, ‘Trampy Trick or…

Vans x David Bowie – Stars Are Never Far Away
I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t feel like two minutes since the world learnt about the passing of David Bowie. This legend of music, art and fashion managed to redefine gender, change how we saw the world and introduced us to new music. “There’s a starman waiting in the sky, he’d like to come and meet us but he thinks he’d blow our minds” Thankfully, for those who have been in need of a Bowie fix, look no further, there’s a new collaboration in town! That’s right, VANS has partnered with the David Bowie estate to create a small fusion collection which celebrates the man who fell to…

TV Review: RuPaul’s Drag Race S11 Ep 4: Trump: The Rusical
The competition is really starting to heat up. We’re now at a part where we’re seeing some front runners. But enough speculation, onto the show! By now the queens have pretty much accepted that Brooke and Vanjie are an item. To be honest, I think even Stevie Wonder saw that one coming. The Mini Challenge RuPaul gave the queens a nice topical challenge this week, the queens had to deliver their best Rachel Maddow news report. Honestly, it was a pretty ‘meh’ challenge but it did teach us one thing. Barely any of the queens could read. Like, legitimately illiterate. They struggled with words like ‘ginormous’ and that had me…
